On January 20, CCA convened its Fifth Council of General Election & the First Meeting of its Fifth Council in Beijing. Zhang Ping, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC, was elected the new president of CCA.
Li Keqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, made important written instructions to the association, “Over the past three decades, China Consumers Association and local consumer associations have been active in performing their duties and have done a lot of fruitful works to safeguard consumers’ legitimate rights and interests, maintain a fair market order and promote social harmony. I wish governments at all levels and relevant departments would keep attaching importance and supporting consumer associations and offer them all necessary assistance in their works. Consumer associations at all levels should take the initiative, innovate the rights protection mechanism and lay emphasis on education and guidance by centering on better safeguard of consumers’ legitimate rights and interests. Consumer associations at all levels should also facilitate the entire society to jointly and actively create a safe and favorable environment for consumers and thus contribute to national development and people’s livelihood.”
Zhang Ping, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, and Wang Yong, State Councilor, attended the meeting and delivered their speeches, emphasizing earnest implementation of the spirit of Li Keqiang’s instructions, cohesive force to protect consumers’ rights and more important role in better safeguarding consumers’ rights and interests.
New directors were elected at the meeting for the Fifth Council of CCA. Zhang Ping, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, was elected the new president of CCA.
Zhang Ping put an emphasis on actively adapting to the new normal of social and economic development by centering on the protection of consumers’ legitimate rights and interests. He also laid stress on better understanding the new positioning and new responsibilities of consumer associations as stated in the newly revised Law on Protection of Consumer Rights and Interests. He emphasized the need to improve cognition, change concepts and make innovatons. He also underlined the need to constantly promote the credibility, influence and cohesion of CCA in the protection of consumers’ rights, to continuously enhance the self-capacity of consumer associations so as to improve CCA’s works to a new height.
Wang Yong pointed out that CCA and consumer associations at all levels should earnestly implement the deployment requirements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council for regulating the market order and strengthening the protection of consumers’ rights. He also noted that the associations should take the initiative, innovate mechanisms, constantly strengthen self-construction, giving full play to their role as bridges and bonds and better safeguard consumers’ legitimate rights and interests. Governments of all levels should strengthen their organizational leadership in the protection of consumers’ rights while all sectors of society should actively support and take part in the protection of consumers’ rights, creating a favorable environment for consumers.
